Torridon, Applecross and Glen Carron

Places to go walking and climbing during your stay in Lochcarron.

The map below shows some of the main Munros in the vicinity of Lochcarron, Applecross and Torridon.

General Information

Lochcarron is an excellent base for those who wish to go walking and climbing with a number of walks of varying degrees of seriousness within just a short distance of the village.

Many of those walks start from Glen Carron and there are both linear and circular walks with starting points on the A890 at Attadale (directly across Loch Carron from Lochcarron), Coulags, Achnashellach and Craig.

A little further afield, there are some excellent shorter walks at Applecross, several of which are within the grounds of the Applecross Estate and are well signposted. A walk to the delightful little coral beach at Ard Ban some 3 miles to the south of Applecross village is something definitely not to be missed.

Some 20 miles (25 - 30 minutes by car) to the north of Lochcarron is Torridon, an area which is extremely popular with walkers and climbers. Here, the 3 Munros of Beinn Alligin, Liathach and Beinn Eighe are a major attraction. Also, some of the linear walks from the A890 in Glen Carron go through to the A896 at Annat (just outside Torridon) and also to Glen Torridon, hence with suitable transport (which may possibly be available from See The Highlands - but needs to be booked in advance) it is possible to undertake a very rewarding walk through from one glen to the next.
